safety camera dashboard

This interactive dashboard provides information about fixed and mobile safety cameras operated across Devon and Cornwall.

We suggest you read the “Important Information” details before use – and also check out the “PowerBI Tutorial” video which demonstrates how to navigate the dashboard.

Below the dashboard we have tried to provide answers to some of the most Frequently Asked Questions about safety cameras, so please do have a read as they may shed light on some of your enquiries.

Speed Camera Dashboard FAQs.

Fixed camera enforcement is not always the right approach. There are a significant number of mobile enforcement sites across both counties, with new schemes – including an Average Speed Camera system on the A361 North Devon Link Road – constantly under review.

There are several thousand mobile camera sites across Devon and Cornwall – with more being added regularly – data is instead collated and reported within each of the six speed enforcement locations.

Due to the limitations of the processing software, it is not possible to export all of the several thousand mobile enforcement sites onto a single map.

There are a number of redundant camera sites on Devon & Cornwall’s roads.

There are currently more camera housings than actual cameras, meaning some are rotated from site to site.

There is an ongoing programme to replace these or remove any housings which are no longer required.

Speed limits are set by your local authority which depends on where you live. If you have an enquiry about a speed limit in your area, you can contact your local authority using the details below:

There is no legal requirement for the police to display camera signs on or near the road or on the enforcement vehicle. Motorists should be aware that if they exceed the legal speed limit anywhere at any time, they risk being detected and fined.

The mobile cameras employ laser technology to detect the speed of vehicles. The laser has a theoretical range of many miles but for enforcement purposes where the operator needs to see the vehicle, the equipment is calibrated up to 1000 metres.

All detection devices are Home Office Type Approved for use. The equipment has internal automatic self-diagnostic checks and are regularly tested by the operator during use against known targets. The equipment is also independently checked and calibrated on an annual basis in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidance and issued with a calibration certificate which forms part of police evidence and can be produced in court if required.

Speeding tickets are administered by Devon & Cornwall Police.
