motorcycle road safety simulator

understanding motorcycle vulnerability

Welcome to the home of our state-of-the-art motorcycle road safety simulator.

Motorcyclists are one of the most vulnerable road user groups – both nationally and across Devon & Cornwall. Despite making up just 1% of total traffic, motorcyclists account for almost 20% of road deaths.

In response to this issue, Vision Zero South West has worked alongside the Department for Transport’s Project Apex, National Highways and Devon & Cornwall Police to pilot the development of a hazard awareness simulator – the first-of-its-kind in the UK.

Real Bike
Simulation

Uses a Honda CB500X with authentic controls (brakes, clutch, throttle, indicators) to replicate real-road conditions.

Immersive
Environment

Surround video screens, realistic vibration, surround sound, and functioning wing mirrors create a lifelike riding experience.

Custom
Scenarios

Software allows for tailored hazard simulations, covering varied road layouts, weather, and traffic conditions.

Expert
Feedback

Real-time analysis and rider feedback provided by experienced operators, including police motorbike instructors.

12-Month
Pilot

Touring events and venues across Devon & Cornwall throughout 2024 to evaluate impact on rider hazard awareness.
